Riverview School District, located forty minutes from Seattle in the lower Snoqualmie Valley, encompasses the communities of Carnation and Duvall and surrounding areas, and covers approximately 250 square miles in eastern King County. The district schools are easily accessible to Redmond, Woodinville, Bellevue, Issaquah, and other eastside communities.

The district, with a K-12 student enrollment of approximately 3,000 includes Cedarcrest High School, housing students grades 9-12; Tolt Middle School accommodating 6-8 grade students; and Carnation, Cherry Valley and Stillwater elementary schools serving a K-5 student population.

Riverview offers education in an integrated setting. Special programs designed to meet the needs of students include special education, remedial reading programs, gifted and honors programs, early childhood programs, English Language Learners, music and fine arts program s vocational education, outdoor education, athletics, activities, and clubs.

Due to our size, employees and the community are very involved in the goal setting and strategic planning for the district. The district benefits from consistent voter support for school levies. All schools maintain active PTA's and provide many opportunities for community volunteers to share in the learning process with students.

Cedarcrest High School

Cedarcrest High School, built in 1993 in Duvall, was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1996. Cedarcrest operates on a block schedule of four class periods a day and offers a program than includes college preparatory classes, special education, vocational/technical education, and career education. The new graduation requirements for the class of 2008 go into effect with this year's freshman class and include 1) completing a Senior Project; 2) drafting a High School Plus Education Plan; 3) earning a Certificate of Academic Achievement by meeting standards on the 10th grade WASL; and 4) earning 28 credits in required subject areas.

Tolt Middle School

The Tolt Middle School program is designed to create a positive transition from elementary to high school for the emerging adolescent. Newly remodeled, Tolt serves approximately 700 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. All students are placed with an interdisciplinary team of teachers. The Team Teachers teach the core subjects of Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science, with Mathematics taught by a smaller group of teachers. Strands of fine and performing arts, communication, leadership, technology, physical and health education complete the schedule. Technology use and application is an integral part of all instructional units. An Honors Program in Language Arts is available in the 8th grade.

Elementary Schools

Three elementary schools, Carnation, Cherry Valley, and Stillwater, provide a caring, safe, and nurturing environment for K-5 students. Full-time librarian, music, and PE teachers serve children daily at each school. All-day kindergarten and before and after school day care are also available at all three schools. We welcome parent and community participation in school activities and classroom assistance.

Alternative Programs

Riverview provides a variety of learning experiences and styles for our students and a wide range of choices for families.

The Eagle Rock Multi-Age (ERMA) Program offers learning through thematic units organized around math and science for approximately 70 K-5 students and requires parent participation. The Eagle Rock Program is based on the individual strengths and abilities of students rather than their grade levels and students are allowed to progress at their own independent learning pace. Enrollment applications are accepted between January and March.

PARADE (Parents and Riverview Actively Delivering Education) is a collaborative effort between the school district and families who are home schooling their children. A menu of courses are designed and offered with input from participating families. Applications are available for this K-12 program, which is located at Carnation Elementary School .

CLIP (Contracted Learning Individual Program) serves high school at-risk and dropout retrieval students. CLIP and is designed to allow students to progress at their own pace to earn a diploma. Students and parents must meet with the instructor to apply. CLIP is located at Cedarcrest High School.

Both PARADE and CLIP offer a Riverview School District Diploma for high school completion based upon requirements stated in District policy and procedures, and provide their own separate graduation ceremony.
