PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, responsible for providing appropriate physical therapy services to students eligible for special education services. Consult with staff on intervention planning.  Work with parents and families on related issues.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Provides and/or supervises educationally related treatment/consultative services to include developmental therapy, therapeutic exercise, gait training, functional training (feeding, dressing, mobility), etc., in a variety of settings

2.       Assesses specific growth, development and effects of disease, injury or condition and consults with teachers in developing IEP goals and objectives

3.       Procures, fabricates and adapts appropriate equipment for students

4.       Analyzes and communicates the results of student assessment and progress with school staff, parents, students and as appropriate medical specialists

5.       Designs and implements in -class interventions (large/small group and/or individual) and models strategies

6.       Provides resources and models strategies and training to other team members in physical therapy interventions

7.       Works cooperatively and collaboratively with the Occupational Therapist to provide for the physical and motoric needs of students

8.       Works cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, parents and administrators

9.       Maintains timely and accurate student records including evaluations, IEP's, progress reports, Medicaid reports, and others

10.   Contributes to planning of  the education curriculum to meet the needs of eligible children

11.   Participates with administrative and special services personnel in planning objectives, standards, implementation, and evaluation of the special education program

12.   Participates in staff development activities.  Provides training to staff as appropriate.

13.   Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

Valid and appropriate Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate

Physical Therapy Degree and License

Demonstrated successful therapy experience in a variety of educational settings

Preferred:  Neuro-Developmental Training (NDT)

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of interdisciplinary assessment, data gathering, effective communication skills. Knowledge of in-class service delivery.  Ability to read, write, speak, communicate, and compute effectively; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage; ability to organize and set priorities; ability to exercise independent judgment, remain flexible, and work effectively under pressure; evidence of strong oral and written communication skills; ability to maintain confidential information and records; ability to interact with children in a warm, confident manner; ability to supervise others; ability to develop amd mange PT systems, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.  Must be committed to the District mission statement and objectives.

                                                                                                                               

REQUIREMENTS:

1.   All District employees shall undergo a criminal records check, including a fingerprint check by both the State Patrol and FBI.

2.   All District employees shall sign an Authorization and Release of Information form relating to prior school district employment.

Salary:                          Certificated salary schedule for 2007-2008
