PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Operates a school bus in a legal and safe manner, transporting students to and from school and activities away from school, as directed.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

I.     Assures bus condition meets health and safety requirements

        1.  Conducts pre-trip and post-trip bus inspection to insure that all parts are operating and the bus is safe

        2.  Fuels the bus as needed

        3.  Cleans the interior of the bus daily

        4.  Cleans exterior of bus no less than weekly

        5.  Completes daily log forms, routes, student lists and other required paperwork accurately and promptly

        6.  Inspects first aid kit, CPR mask, body fluid kit

        7.  Inspects emergency equipment and shake fire extinguisher on a weekly basis

II.    Operates bus to provide safe and timely transportation of students

        1.  Drives the bus on assigned routes in a legal and safe manner

        2.  Uses oral communication to control student behavior and ensure rider safety

        3.  Reports student misconduct on the bus through established district procedures

        4.  Instructs students and teachers in emergency bus evacuation procedures (conducts actual drills twice a year and verbal drills twice a year).  May involve physically assisting students from bus (pulling/dragging 50-100 pounds with 15 pounds force).

        5.  Ability to pass yearly evacuation exam, demonstrating the ability to evacuate a school bus from a seated position in 25 seconds.

        6.  Operates two-way radio as needed

        7.  Performs other related duties as requested

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     Valid Washington State Driver's license with appropriate commercial driver's license endorsement                                                                                           

2.         Valid Washington State school bus driver certificate and all other required certification

3.         Understand and be able to deal with all types of students, including those with physical and mental handicaps

4.         Be able to maintain a flexible work schedule

5.         Know and understand district bus procedures                              

6.     Have knowledge of or ability to read maps and to learn the road names, locations, addresses of the district

7.         Understand the working parts of the buses and identify minor mechanical defects

8.     Verification of a physical health certification and a drug/alcohol testing

9.     Verification of a current driver abstract of driving record

10.  Current and valid First Aid/CPR card or equivalent

11.  Current criminal record check and disclosure statement                                                                               

REQUIREMENTS:

1.          All district employees shall undergo a criminal background check, including a fingerprint check by both State Patrol and FBI.

2.          All District employees shall sign an Authorization and Release of Information form relating to prior school district employment.         

3.          Pre-employment drug testing is required

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Work Year:       2007-08 School Year

Work Day:        4 hours, 20 minutes per day; 5 days per week.

Salary:              $15.77-$17.59 per hour, depending on experience. Based on 2007-08 PSE Salary Schedule.

Benefits:           District provides a pro-rata FTE share of state insurance benefit entitlement to go towards payment of premiums for medical, dental and vision insurances
