ERMA 2004-2005 Brangwin High Tea

ERMA is introducing the Brangwin High Tea this next year at our school. Students are given a list of 25 books to choose from. These books are chosen as nominees from the Sasquatch Reading Award book nominees of the Washington Library Media Association and from the Young Readers Choice Award Nominees in association with the Pacific Northwest Library Association. Once a student has earned enough points by reading, writing or participating in discussions about the books they then qualify to attend a book themed, High Tea. After qualifying they may then invite an author to attend with them. Local authors like David Patneaude and Dave Ross have attended other High Teas in our school district. Family members who wish to attend the High Tea may do so only if they qualify as well, or if they volunteer to help serve. The contest starts on the first day of this year’s summer vacation (June 19th). You can check out these books at our local Duvall Library and our school will have a couple of sets to check out once school starts this fall. Fawn Ashby also has these books and would be willing to lend them out over short periods during this summer. Contact her at (425) 844-4109 or erik.ashby@ashbys.net. This is a wonderful way to read this summer and earn points to attend an amazing and really fun High Tea.

ERMA High Tea Rules (applies to participating parents and family members as well as students):

  • You must have 15 points to participate in the High Tea.
  • You must read at least 10 books.
  • Reading must be done by March 13th, 2005.

Ways you can Earn High Tea Points

  • Reading a book = 1 point. You can either read the book, have the book read to you by an adult or listen to the book on tape. 10 of your 15 points have to be acquired this way.
  • Make a poster of your book which will entice others to read the book. = 1 point
  • Write in 75 words why you think this is a book others should read. = 1 point
  • Attend a lunch time or after-school book discussion led by the High Tea Parents. A calendar of dates and books will be provided at the beginning of the school year. = 1 point

Remember that you have to earn ten points from reading books. The other categories will help you earn extra points that could help boost your total points to 15, or you can just read 15 books.

Contest Starts June 19th 2004. Ready, Set, Read!
