Notes from the Director’s Chair

October has been a busy month at Eagle Rock! Our first field trips (the first by the 4/5th graders to Oxbow Farms, and the next to the zoo by the entire school) were enjoyed by all. The 4/5 class has been working on environmental studies with Washington Trout Environmental Discovery in preparation for the 5th grade outdoor camp next March.

Thanks to the help of our wonderful parents, another successful fund-raising garage sale in early October brought over $900 toward our 5th grade camp.

October also saw our annual School Board Roundtable, at which time our Site Team presented to the School Board a list of our accomplishments and our needs at Eagle Rock. We also had a presentation at the school board meeting on October 26, where several students gave short speeches to the board members about what is new here. They included information about the formation of our first Student Council (and three students gave their campaign speeches as part of their presentation) and information about our family groups.

DECA students from the high school volunteered two afternoons to help finish painting projects (The 4/5 bathroom is awash in fresh, new blue paint, awaiting student murals to be painted on the walls). The students also worked toward applying fresh paint to the lattice work on the end of the deck. Thank you, DECA!

Fierce, comical and traditional pumpkins were carved at Eagle Rock on October 25th, and our school-wide Halloween Olympics took place on Friday, thanks to the amazing organizational efforts of Mr. A.

ASB Elections

Congratulations to

  • MacKenzie Woelz - Vice President
  • Maggie Gronberg - Secretary

Good job to all those who ran for office. You made the school proud.

Taking Vacations During the School Week

Learning is more than papers and pencils. Teachers teach, and for students to learn, they must be in the classroom during instructional time. If you MUST take a child out of the classroom for other than illness or family emergency, we have a form for you to fill out prior to the child's absence. The office needs to be kept informed of each student's whereabouts, as we do safety calls when a student is absent. All pre-arranged absences must follow district guidelines, and this form is your first step.

Please remember that, though family time is important, your child may not be able to "make up" missed classroom instruction.

Program for the Academically Talented

Time to Nominate Students for the Program for the Academically Talented. Riverview School District’s Program for the Academically Talented (PAT) is currently seeking nominations for the 2005-2006 school year. Interested parents should contact their child’s elementary school office after November 1st for a nomination packet. The nomination forms must be returned by Friday, December 3rd.

No late nominations will be accepted. Testing for nominated students will be on two Saturdays, January 8th and 22nd at Carnation Elementary. Students must attend both test sessions. No make up testing will be provided.

The goal for the Program for the Academically Talented is to support and provide appropriate academic challenges to students with extraordinary ability in Reading, Language Arts or Math.

Help Benefit Riverview Students

Did you know Riverview Students can directly benefit from your tax-deductible, charitable contribution?

Here’s How

When you donate through United Way at home or from your office, you can designate the Riverview Educational Foundation (code #12338) as the organization to receive your contribution.

Why REF?

REF is an independent, volunteer, non-profit organization that promotes educational enrichment in Riverview Schools. Your donation to REF supports grants that are awarded for innovative projects developed by students, teachers, staff or parents.

Your Contribution in Action

This year, over $16,000 in Grants were awarded to 24 educational projects in the Riverview School District in areas such as Math, Science, Art and Reading. To learn more about his year’s grants visit out website at http://www.REFweb.org.

Attendance Reminders

Reasons to keep your child at home:

  • Temp of 100 or more
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Pink Eye
  • Rash on body especially with fever
  • Lice
  • Chronic Cough
  • Injury needing medical attention

If you ever have a question as to whether your child should be kept home, please call the office.

If your child arrives after 9:30am, you will need to sign them in at the office and obtain a pass for your child to give to their teacher. This way their teacher knows they are checked in properly and have been counted for lunch if needed.

On Monday mornings at Stillwater, if you arrive after 9:15am, you will need to go to the office and be checked in.

Any end of the day plan changes must be called in by 2:30pm to insure your child gets to the correct place. If we do not receive a not or phone call, your child will follow his/her normal after school plan.

If your child requires medication (prescription or over the counter), it required an authorization form signed by your child’s doctor. These forms are available in the office and on our website. If you have any question contact Jan or Brenda at the office or call nurse Karen at 425-844-4582

Greenhouse Grant

The fourth and fifth graders at Eagle Rock are writing a grant through King-5 TV and Washington State Potatoes to get a greenhouse for the school. Students have worked hard to determine how the greenhouse could benefit learning, written letters, and drawn pictures as their part of the grant process. Parents are also involved in completing information for the grant, which would also provide $1,000 for outfitting the greenhouse. Schools receiving the greenhouses will be notified on or about November 19, 2004.

Length Of Day

We are ready to look at how we can lengthen our school day here at Eagle Rock All parents interested in serving on this committee are invited to meet in Mrs. Harris’s room at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 10. At this meeting we will examine any and all possibilities. Come and give us your concerns, ideas, and opinions!

Harassment and Bullying Policy
