Discipline Policy and Communication
At the Eagle Rock Multi-Age Program, we strongly believe that
children are responsible for their behavioral choices.
Our expectations are simple.
- Children in our learning community need to act safely and responsibly
at all times.
- We must all respect the rights and property of ourselves, others,
the school, and our community.
- We must arrive at school on time with a positive, cooperative
attitude towards learning.
If these expectations are sometimes difficult for children, we
believe in the work of Jim Faye, "Love and Logic", and
Jayne Nelson, "Positive Discipline", that allows children
opportunities to find solutions to problems, develop effective
ways to work and play together, and ask for help when they don't
know how.
Sometimes, children's choices require additional attention. It
is our goal to correct any inappropriate behavior within the confines
out our program. We will, however, bring a particular behavior
to the parent's attention if we feel changing the behavior requires
the parents' support at home or if we have determined that the
behavior is repetitive or severe enough in nature to warrant further
follow-up.
Conferences will be set up when necessary, providing an opportunity
for the teacher, the parents, and when appropriate, the child to
create a behavioral plan. Parents will be given an opportunity
to review the dates and nature of the incidents along with the
actions taken by the teacher. At this meeting, we will
- outline the expected behavior
- work together to develop a plan to alleviate, manage, or improve
the behavior
- outline a time-line to correct the behavior
If the behavior is not corrected during this time period, or if
something occurs that could affect the health and safety of your
child, other children or staff members, your child may be suspended.
Communication Policy
If you have concerns, questions, and/or comments regarding curriculum
or any practice within the district, please refer to the following
guidelines.
Step 1
Contact the teacher if it is a situation regarding the instruction
of the student.
Step 2
Contact the building principal with concerns/questions that have
not been resolved at the teacher lever. If questions and concerns
are general in nature, it is appropriate to contact the principal
directly.
Step 3
If concerns/questions are not addressed adequately at the building
level, the Superintendent's office is the best contact source and
can be reached at (425) 844-4504.
Step 4
Concerns of a general nature that have not been adequately addressed
by the Superintendent's office may be directed to the Board of
Directors in writing through the Superintendent's office.
