Homework Policies
Teachers assign homework for many reasons. Homework can help children
- review and practice what they've learned
- get ready for the next day's class
- learn to use resources, such as libraries, reference materials,
and encyclopedias
- explore subjects more fully than time permits in the classroom
Homework can also bring parents and educators closer together.
Parents who supervise homework and work with their children on
assignments learn about their children's education and about the
school. Homework is meant to be a positive experience and to encourage
children to learn.
Here are the basics of our homework policy at Eagle Rock.
- Students from all grade levels are expected to read or be read
to for 20 minutes or more each night.
- At the K-1 level, homework is introduced as an option.
- At the 2-3 level, homework is required. Allow 30-40 minutes
each night for homework, including time spent reading.
- At the 4-5 level, homework becomes a daily routine. Allow 40-50
minutes each night for homework including, time spent reading.
- For more information, please read the handout "How
to Help Your Child Succeed With Homework." Copies
are available at the office.
