WASA Community Recognition Award to Riverview Volunteer, Leanne Christensen

2004 WASA Community Recognition Award to Riverview Volunteer, Leanne ChristensenThe Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) presented their Community Recognition Awards on May 21, 2004 to the outstanding volunteers from each school district in King County. Leanne Christensen received the award representing the Riverview School District from Monte Bridges, Superintendent of the Puget Sound Educational Service District and Conrad Robertson, Superintendent of the Riverview School District.

Leanne Christensen has been an active member and officer in the Riverview PTSAs since 1996, including Cherry Valley Elementary and Tolt Middle School. She has volunteered on the Safe & Drug Free Schools Committee, the high school Senior Project, and the Riverview Schools Committee.

Over six years, her inspired leadership and hands-on work have brought success to the PTSA “Make A Difference Day” projects. At Cherry Valley, she chaired for four years the annual “Basket Auction” to raise money for families in need during the holidays, working with students and parents to design and fill the baskets. At Tolt Middle School her first project involved a beautification undertaking with students and parent volunteers cleaning the Duvall Park & Ride and the Carnation Cemetery. In her second Tolt Project, Leanne organized students, parents and staff volunteers to scrape and paint the Tolt stadium bleachers on a very cold 40 degree day.

Working with the Superintendent’s Office for the last two years, Leanne has also volunteered to publish the “Riverviews” quarterly newspaper. She has written the articles, taken photos, prepared the layouts, and delivered newspapers across the valley. The School Board, District and staff thank Leanne profusely for volunteering to take on the district newspaper production when funds were not available to hire a communications person.

Ms. Christensen’s outstanding abilities and outgoing, warm personality have made an enormous difference to the students of Riverview School District and the communities of Carnation and Duvall. Her efforts, enthusiasm, and creativity are greatly appreciated by all.
