Highlights for the 2003-2004 School Year
The Riverview School District Technology Department has had a busy and productive year as a number of critical initiatives and system changes were implemented. Among the highlights were the following:
- Hired new Network Support Specialist, Chris Latham
- Installed new district firewall at Cedarcrest High School
- Implemented new online “Help Desk” tech repair system; 788 “Closed” or finished repair tickets (4.4 per day)
- Helped create a 2 year $1.3 million dollar technology levy that was passed in February (with an over 66% yes vote)
- Totally re-built all the main servers at Cedarcrest including the district email server, the mail staff and student server, and the internet web filtering server
- Installed new main servers at Tolt, CE, SW, and CV
- Installed new more comprehensive tape back-up systems at CHS and Tolt
- Increased intra-district bandwidth with a new T1 between CE and Cedarcrest and a new T1 between Tolt and CE
- Created and received approval from OSPI, a new 3 year District Technology Plan
- With Tech Trainers, offered 20 district tech classes with over 85 participants
- Received “Teaching and Technology Coaching Initiative Grants (T2CI) for 8 district teachers for the 2004-2005 school year
- Becky Panesko, Carnation Elementary 5th grade teacher, received a Gates Foundation Teacher Leadership Project (TLP) grant for technology integration into her classroom for the 2004-2005 school year
- Began implementation for cutover to new WESPaC Student Information System, scheduled for August 23rd
Technology Initiatives for Summer 2003 and 2004-2005 School Year
- Will increase all district internet bandwidth with a new K-20 T1 line (scheduled for completion in late July)
- New intercom\bell\clock system for TMS will be installed in July
- Network improvements to ERMA installed in July
- Training and implementation of new “WESPaC” Student Information System for staff, scheduled for late August
- Roll-out of new RSD web site for back to school
- New Food Service computer cashiering system installed (WESPaC module), scheduled for late Fall ‘04
- New computers for all school libraries, PARADE, ERMA, and CLIP programs, scheduled for Winter ‘05
- Two new “Computer Tech” positions will be hired in January ‘05
