About Cherry Valley Elementary
Cherry Valley Elementary is a learning community of over 550 students in Preschool through fifth grade, their families, our staff, and our partners in local business and service agencies. We view our school as an inclusive learning community, breaking down the barriers between home, school, and community by partnering with the Cherry Valley PTA, Children's Services of Sno-Valley, and other community-based groups to provide activities such as parenting education classes, interest-based programs for children during school breaks, and extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Join us as we discover the joys and challenges of learning and growing to our highest potential.
Mission
"Students at Cherry Valley Elementary will learn and grow to their highest potential in a safe, cooperative, and productive learning environment."
At Cherry Valley Elementary, our focus is first and foremost on students. We work together with parents and community to provide an environment that will maximize the potential of each and every child. Using our vision statement and the Riverview School District Strategic Plan, Cherry Valley focused on two areas during the 2006 - 2007 school year.
- Horizontal Teaming by grade levels.
- Vertical Committees in the areas of Safety, Discipline, and Learning Improvement.
Collaborative Planning Time (CPT) half-days were woven into the school calendar and provided time for teachers to work, plan, and learn together. We made great strides in both areas of focus as we developed grade level writing prompts, shared instructional strategies related to our new math curriculum adoption, developed common area expectations for student behavior, coordinated our building safety plan with the overall district plan, and engaged in many, many more activities.

School Improvement and Action Plan
Through the development of authentic professional learning communities, and using district-approved curriculum, the number of Cherry Valley Elementary 4th graders meeting or exceeding state standards in reading, math and writing, as measured by teacher-developed performance assessments and WASL scores, will continue to increase in an upward trend through June 2007.

Facility Information
Cherry Valley Elementary is an integral part of the Duvall community. The building is used, after school hours, on a regular basis by a number of community and civic groups.
Our motto is “Cherry Valley Elementary is a house of learning,” and upon entering our building you will see a very vivid representation of that motto. During the 1999-2000 school year, a local artist, Daniel Cautrell, through a King County Arts Commission grant and donations, worked with Cherry Valley students to create a mural describing the components of a house of learning. Students used 46 words such as discover, responsible, friendship, math, respect, questions, and adventure. They visualized those concepts and represented them on one-foot square paper mini-murals which were attached to wood, varnished, and painted with primary colors. This display in our entryway is clear and compelling, profoundly announcing “This is a house of learning.”
PTA/PTSA
herry Valley is especially strengthened through its relationship with the Cherry Valley PTA. Each year, our active PTA organizes and coordinates hundreds of volunteer hours for activities such as school pictures, Back to School Bash, Bingo nights, Skate nights, Scrips, Campbell’s Soup labels, and popcorn days. In addition, CV PTA sponsored after-school enrichment classes during the 2005-06 school year. Workshop titles included Spanish and Photography.
Please contact the school office at 425-844-4750 or the PTA to inquire about how you can get involved.
