About ERMA

The Eagle Rock Multi-Age (ERMA) Program began in the fall of 1994. It was created to provide another choice for parents of kindergarten through fifth grade students in the Riverview School District. This program integrates curricular areas through school-wide thematic units, developed by staff members and used to bring learning alive for children.

We offer students a unique hands-on, minds-on learning environment that fosters cooperation and teamwork. ERMA is based on the individual strengths and abilities of students rather than their grade levels. Students are allowed to progress at their own independent learning pace using a variety of learning styles.

One of the most unique features is the high level of participation and involvement of parents and community. ERMA depends on a shared commitment of each family and requires a minimum of 60 hours of volunteer time, per family, per year. Parents use their own strengths, talents, and skills in their volunteer service.

The ERMA Program is managed by a National Board Certified Teacher, and all staff members are leaders in the district and state professional development. All members of ERMA strive for excellence through collaboration; building an exceptional foundation for students in an inviting, nurturing setting is our top priority.

Families who wish to enroll their child(ren) in the Eagle Rock Multi-Age Program may request an application packet between January 3 and March 1 by contacting the ERMA office at (425) 844-4900.

School Improvement Plan

The Eagle Rock Multi-Age Program K-5 supports site goals for improved student learning through the district budget, community, and grants. This includes attending a staff retreat and providing ongoing inservice to educate staff and parents about the Multi-Age philosophy and strategies that help us improve teaching and learning in all curriculum areas. Staff attend and are leaders in district and state professional development.

The Eagle Rock Site-Based Council is the overall governing system of this program. They guide decisions regarding staffing, curriculum, management, application process, parent volunteering, and the program’s vision and mission. The Council consists of the staff members and parent representatives.

Facility Information

The Eagle Rock Multi-Age Program is located in portables near Cedarcrest High School. This is a prime location for “Our Own Backyard.” Many Cedarcrest High School students participate as volunteer “peer tutors” in the program and our students often participate in productions with the Cedarcrest Drama classes. When visiting the Eagle Rock site, you will often find the students outside on their latest learning adventure. A garden, along with our outdoor classroom, provides daily science enhancements. Students’ art work enhances the walls throughout the site. A multi-purpose building provides an all-school meeting site, library, and activity center.

Curricular Highlights

Thematic Focus for 2006-2007 - There is No Place Like Home

With support of parents and community volunteers, Eagle Rock students enjoy a variety of enrichment activities in a unique context. Parents and staff collaborate to provide meaningful physical fitness activities. An Art Docent Team of parents work cooperatively each week to provide art for our students. Fifth grade students at ERMA participate in Outdoor Education Camp.

School Safety

Emergency Preparedness is a top priority with families and staff at Eagle Rock. Our Emergency Preparedness Committee actively engages staff and students in planning for unexpected events through regular drills, ensuring that every student has a personal emergency kit; and in training 5th graders to be “Student Emergency Response Teams,” to assist adults in an actual emergency. In addition, we have an on-site storage facility containing adequate supplies to sustain us for a period of 72 hours after a major emergency.

PTA/PTSA

The ERMA Parent Teacher Association is an outstanding group of dedicated parents and staff who provide support for our program and funding needs.
