Student Safety
School Rules
Each school in Riverview has certain rules which all students are expected to obey. These rules are based on respect for other people, care for school and personal property, and safety.
Safe Arrival Program
Parent volunteers and school staff members at the elementary schools provide a Safe Arrival Program for students in kindergarten and grades 1-5. Parents can help by calling the school whenever a child is kept home due to illness or emergency.
Early Arrival Prior to School Day
If a student walks, drives or rides to school in a privately owned vehicle, he or she should not arrive earlier than 15 minutes before the beginning of the school day.
Illness, Injury During School Hours
When a student becomes ill or is injured at school, a parent or guardian will be called at home, work, or at the emergency telephone number supplied on the student information form. An ill or injured student will be released to the parent, guardian or other adult whom the parent authorizes. In emergency situations, 911 will be called.
Possession of a Dangerous Weapon
As per state law, violations of the dangerous weapon policy are grounds for expulsion from the state's public schools. Firearms and other dangerous weapons or facsimiles are not allowed on school property. If any elementary or secondary student is found in possession of a firearm on Riverview School District property, school officials will notify the student's parent or guardian and the appropriate law enforcement agency, and the student will be expelled.
Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Policy
In compliance with state requirements, the Riverview School District maintains alcohol, drug, gun, and tobacco-free property. This policy applies to students, staff, and community members. Policies and Procedures cover all definitions and sanctions. Copies are available upon request from all schools.
Pesticide Notification Policy
Public (K-12) schools are required to provide annual notification of their pest control policies and methods, establish a system to notify parents/guardians and employees of planned pesticide use, and post signs where pesticides have been applied. It is the goal of the Riverview School District to control pests in the buildings and on the grounds while maintaining our high standards for health and safety of students, staff, and the general public.
Chemical Hygiene Plan
Riverview School District’s Chemical Hygiene Plan describes practices, procedures, equipment, and facilities to be used by employees, students, visitors and other personnel working in laboratories where chemicals, flammables, and potentially hazardous materials exist.
Comprehensive Student Safety Plan
Riverview School District’s Comprehensive Student Safety Plan is a commitment to maintain an environment that improves student safety.
